Reply from Craig Sherwood regarding life of Thomas Fletcher
From the 16 Apr 1886 issue of the The Daily Telegraph, Australia
Fletcher's Coffee Roaster. — Messrs. Castley Bros., of the Silver Mine Tea Warehouse, Charles street, have now in use one of Fletcher's patent speedy coffee roasters. We have seen it in use, and it has great advantages over any other process of preparing the coffee bean for the mill. By the old mode much of the exquisite aroma was lost — wasted in the slow-roasting process. By the use of the patent roaster the full aroma is preserved, and epicures in genuine coffee will feel delighted with the result. Overdone coffee becomes bitter and acrid, but by the patent machine the coffee can be ' done to a turn,' and then promptly removed to the cooler, thus preventing any portion from being burnt.
